Youth Karate Program in Prospect Heights, Illinois
The youth Karate program is designed for children ages 7 years and older. Our youth Karate program teaches students:
Kihon: Basic training, emphasizing the proper way to stand and breathe, and how to properly use the hands and feet to strike and block opponents. Once a certain amount of basic movements are learned, students begin putting them together in pre-arranged movements called Kata.
Kata: The Kata, or “form,” is the traditional ritual sequence of motions against attackers. Each of the 26 katas contain a variety of Karate movements, and are an opportunity to learn and practice beginner through advanced Karate techniques. As you progress you will learn to integrate correct breathing, timing, focus, and intensity.
Kumite: Kumite, or sparring, is the sport aspect of Karate. Advanced students practice free sparring, while beginners and intermediate students practice 3 -and 5 -step sparring. Emphasis is always on proper technique and control. Rigid rules of procedure and etiquette are maintained for safety.
This program is designed to promote physical fitness and the development of a strong character. Our combination of traditional Karate with a unique belt system helps these students to develop their Karate and their confidence!
